8.30-10.15am: Responsible Investment in the Mekong

Presenter: Graham Dixie, grahame@growasia.org
Organization: Grow Asia

In October 2017, the ASEAN Secretariat agricultural team requested Grow Asia to help improve their dialogue to develop policies though greater participation of the Private Sector. Their priority area was to develop regional guidelines for responsible investment in agriculture. The agreed process was that the foundation of the Guidelines would be the Committee for Food Security (CFS) Principles on Responsible Agricultural Investment (negotiated October 2015 in Rome) and would build on the emerging global good practices. The goal of the Guidelines is to promote socially responsible agricultural investments in the ASEAN region that contributes to food security, nutrition and sustainable livelihood. More specifically, by developing regional guidelines for responsible agricultural investment, we aim to awareness and understanding on responsible agricultural investment and seek to strengthen the enabling environment and capacities of ASEAN Member States to promote and implement the guidelines. The guidelines are currently being refined through a public consultation process involving public, private and civil society sectors and will be adopted by the Council of Agricultural Ministers by October 2018.
